Amazon ecommerce major has now entered into the online pharmacy space, This is even as the Union government is yet to release its final guidance of the e:pharmacy regulations.
The Amazon Pharmacy service has currently opened in Bengaluru. The company plans its foray into other metros thereafter. Customers can now order via its platform: amazon.in all medicines via prescription. In addition nutraceuticals supplements, Ayurveda medicines and medical devices can also be ordered.
India’s online pharmacy already has leading players like Medlife, NetMeds and PharmEasy, 1 mg. Besides Practo the online consulting platform has also a large pool patents accessing its online pharmacy platform. “Delivery of medicines will continue to constitute a large chunk of the market” according to RedSeer Consulting.
The COVID-19 lockdown has accelerated the demand for online services and here pharmacy is a key component in allowing easy access to medicines via prescriptions. This according to the company will help people remain safe indoors.
Further the RedSeer Consulting report indicates that digital health market will increase to $4.5 billion in FY21 compared to the $1.2 billion in the last fiscal. The key drivers are proliferation of mobile phone users that has led to an internet savvy population. The report has estimated that this market will register a five time growth to touch $25 billion in 2025 compared to the pre-COVID-19 estimate of $19 billion
