India’s biotechnology sector is one of the fastest-growing parts of the economy. The country’s bioeconomy has grown from about USD 10 billion in 2014 to over USD 195 billion in 2025, with an annual growth rate of 18 percent. The research indicates that India will have a USD 300 billion bioeconomy by 2030 with the growth in biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology research, diagnostics, vaccines and industrial biotechnology in the country. There are also nearly 11,900 biotech startups in India, which indicates that the ecosystem of innovation is expanding.

As the sector continues to grow, the focus is moving beyond policies and government support toward building the infrastructure needed for research, development, manufacturing, and commercialisation. Established hubs like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad and new industrial regions like Jambusar have attracted investment in life sciences because of infrastructure, skilled people and connectivity. Common facilities, such as analytical laboratories, cleanrooms, cold storage, effluent treatment plants, or specialised utility networks, reduce operating costs, keep up with environmental and safety standards daily that can help reduce the costs of doing business. Shared infrastructure also lowers barriers to entry for innovators and early-stage firms as they can devote more attention to research and product development and not facility construction. The presence of such facilities would considerably speed up the commercialisation process and enhance the competitive ecosystem.

Connectivity and Talent Matter Equally

Physical and digital connections are now indispensable for modern biotech parks. Efficient transportation links allow for the movement of biological material, laboratory samples, equipment, and finished products. Highways, ports, airports, and logistics routes are a key factor in supply chain function and attractiveness.

Knowledge is also critical. India has a large number of scientists, engineers, healthcare workers and biotechnology researchers, which are one of its best competitive advantages. Incubation centers, accelerators, and innovation hubs also strengthen these ecosystems as they provide startups with technical expertise, mentorship, and funding, and commercialisation opportunities.

Sustainability and Regulatory Readiness

Sustainability is now a fundamental requirement of life science infrastructure. Biotechnology and pharmaceutical facilities consume a lot of energy and water, generating specialised streams of waste. As environmental regulations tighten worldwide, parks must integrate renewable energy into the process, water recycling systems, energy-efficient buildings, and waste-management systems to ensure optimal environmental quality. Regulatory readiness is also important. Companies that are in the life sciences area are responsible for the quality, safety, and environmental aspects. Parks that offer testing facilities, certification support, and compliance services will help to reduce the complexity of the regulatory process and speed to market faster.

India’s potential for becoming a world biotechnology and pharmaceutical powerhouse will not only depend on scientific innovation but also on the infrastructure that enables it. As the country’s bioeconomy moves toward the USD 300 billion milestone, the demand for integrated life science ecosystems will continue to grow. Parks that are able to bring together specialised infrastructure, shared facilities, connectivity, talent access, sustainability, and regulatory support will be best positioned to attract investment, accelerate innovation, and drive the next phase of growth for India’s life sciences sector.
