Akums Launches DCGI-Approved Triple-Action Therapy for Diabetic Neuropathic Pain

Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals has launched a DCGI-approved triple-action capsule for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, expanding its portfolio of differentiated therapies for neurological disorders.

The newly introduced formulation combines pregabalin 75 mg, methylcobalamin 1,500 mcg and delayed-release duloxetine in 20 mg and 30 mg strengths, bringing together multiple therapeutic mechanisms to address both neuropathic pain and underlying nerve damage.

According to the company, pregabalin works by reducing abnormal nerve activity to relieve neuropathic pain, while duloxetine targets central pain pathways by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake, helping alleviate pain as well as associated anxiety and sleep disturbances. Methylcobalamin, the active neurological form of vitamin B12, supports nerve regeneration by promoting myelin sheath repair and improving nerve conduction.

A key feature of the therapy is its dual-delivery technology, which enables the immediate release of pregabalin and methylcobalamin while ensuring targeted intestinal release of duloxetine, designed to optimise drug delivery and therapeutic effectiveness.

Commenting on the launch, Sandeep Jain, Managing Director of Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, said the increasing prevalence of neuropathy due to diabetes, nutritional deficiencies and lifestyle-related disorders requires treatment approaches that go beyond symptom management. He noted that the new formulation combines multiple therapeutic mechanisms into a single dosage form to support nerve repair, improve long-term neurological health and enhance patient adherence.

Sanjeev Jain, Managing Director of Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, said that the evolving disease patterns call for therapies that address multiple aspects of patient care within a single treatment regimen. He added that the formulation integrates pain management with nerve health support, offering clinicians a comprehensive treatment option for neuropathy while reinforcing the company's focus on developing clinically relevant and differentiated therapies for the Indian healthcare market.
