Allergan Aesthetics Secures FDA Approval for Skinvive by Juvederm to Treat Neck Wrinkles

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Skinvive by Juvéderm to reduce neck lines and improve neck appearance in adults aged 21 years and older. The approval makes Skinvive by Juvéderm the first and only Hyaluronic Acid (HA)-based injectable treatment specifically indicated for reducing neck wrinkles while helping the skin maintain its natural moisture.

Neck wrinkles can develop due to several factors, including natural ageing, sun exposure, significant weight loss and prolonged use of digital devices, often referred to as ‘tech-neck.’ The newly approved treatment is designed to improve skin quality by enhancing moisture retention, which helps reduce the appearance of horizontal neck lines and promotes smoother, softer skin.

Skinvive by Juvéderm is administered using an ultrafine needle or cannula and is considered a minimally invasive procedure with little to no downtime. The formulation also contains a small amount of lidocaine to improve patient comfort during treatment.

Commenting on the approval, Darin Messina, Senior Vice President, Aesthetics Research and Development at AbbVie, said the approval reflects the company’s commitment to developing science-based innovations that address unmet needs in aesthetic medicine. He noted that the treatment expands Allergan Aesthetics’ portfolio of lower-face and neck solutions while providing patients and healthcare professionals with a unique option for improving neck skin quality and reducing visible neck lines.

As part of the regulatory approval, the FDA has required Allergan Aesthetics to establish a dedicated training programme for healthcare providers interested in administering the treatment. Providers will be required to successfully complete the training before purchasing or using Skinvive by Juvéderm.

The company expects the treatment to become broadly available across the United States later this year, further expanding treatment options for patients seeking non-surgical aesthetic solutions for neck rejuvenation.
