Alvotech, a global biotech company specialising in biosimilars, has acquired Ivers-Lee Group, a Switzerland-based provider of pharmaceutical assembly and packaging services. The strategic acquisition is aimed at enhancing Alvotech’s global manufacturing capacity and operational flexibility, especially ahead of the company’s upcoming biosimilar launches.

Established in 1947 in Burgdorf, Switzerland, Ivers-Lee has built a strong reputation for its high-quality packaging solutions. The company operates a GMP-licensed and FDA-approved facility in Burgdorf, along with a strategic business unit in Lörrach, Germany. These facilities will now be integrated into Alvotech’s Technical Operations division, expanding its capabilities in assembling and packaging auto-injectors, prefilled syringes, safety devices, and vials.

Peter Schüpbach, Managing Director of Ivers-Lee, will continue in his current role and join the senior leadership team of Alvotech’s Technical Operations. He noted that Alvotech brings financial strength and long-term growth prospects that the founding family could not provide, ensuring stability for Ivers-Lee and its employees.

Despite the change in ownership, Ivers-Lee will retain its international customer base and continue to offer contract manufacturing services. These include blister and stick-pack activities, clinical supplies, and QP services from the Lörrach unit.

Alvotech’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Robert Wessman, highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two companies. He emphasised that the integration will be crucial as Alvotech prepares for the launch of three new biosimilars in 2025 and expects increased demand across global markets.

The acquisition is set to strengthen Alvotech’s position in the global biosimilars landscape by expanding manufacturing and packaging infrastructure while maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer service.
