Aptar Expands Pharma Operations in Mumbai

Aptar Pharma has announced the expansion of its operations in Mumbai, to add local production of several pharma inhalation technologies, including Aptar’s pressurised Metered Dose Inhaler (pMDI) valve, as well as breath-actuated systems and multi dose nasal spray systems. The investment reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to India as a strategic growth market and strengthens its ability to serve customers in India and across Southeast Asia with greater agility, reliability and proximity.

Gael Touya, President and CEO, Aptar, shared, “As global pharmaceutical markets continue to evolve, India plays an increasingly important role in Aptar Pharma’s long-term strategy. This investment demonstrates our confidence in the market, our commitment to the region and our focus on creating a more agile and resilient manufacturing network closer to our customers.”

Since establishing its commercial presence in Mumbai in 1998, Aptar has continuously expanded its footprint in India. In 2012, the company established local operations with its first assembly facility in Rabale. In 2020, it opened a manufacturing site in Hyderabad to serve the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) markets with dispensing and airless pumps, closures, fine mist spray pumps, aerosol actuators, valves and more.

A new state-of-the-art pharma manufacturing site opened in Taloja in 2023 to support growing customer demand, and today the Mumbai site has become an important part of Aptar Pharma’s global manufacturing network. With the expansion, the company’s manufacturing footprint in Mumbai has increased to 11,300m2, adding molding capability in addition to the already existing assembly operations. The latest investment broadens the site’s role to support evolving customer needs while enhancing local capability and supply resilience.

Additionally, India’s rapid urbanisation, expanding healthcare access, manufacturing and digital infrastructure investments, and rising disposable incomes create further opportunities for Aptar.

Sanjay Kapote, President–India and Head of Pharma-SEA, explained, “India is one of the most dynamic pharmaceutical markets in the world, and this investment enables us to further deepen our engagement with customers in region. It strengthens our local presence, enhances our ability to support customers across the region and builds a platform for sustainable growth.”

An inauguration ceremony held on October 5, 2026, marked the opening of the expanded operations at Aptar Pharma’s Mumbai site. The facility was inaugurated by the Chairperson of the Aptar Board of Directors and members of Aptar’s Executive Committee, underscoring the importance of India within the companys global growth strategy and its commitment to expanding its presence in the region.
