AstraZeneca Pharma India has established a new 25,600-sq-ft corporate office in Mumbai, strengthening its presence in India and supporting its engagement with healthcare stakeholders, research partners and institutions.
The move comes as the company expands its activities in India. Over the past three years, AstraZeneca has introduced more than 25 new medicines and indications in the country and is currently conducting around 80 global clinical trials in India, according to the company. Its operations span commercial activities, clinical research, site management and monitoring, technology, research and development and global business services.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the new office reflects AstraZeneca’s confidence in the state’s pharmaceutical and life sciences ecosystem, which is supported by skilled professionals, research institutions and healthcare infrastructure. He said the development could create opportunities for collaboration, capability building and skilled employment.
Praveen Rao Akkinepally, Country President and Managing Director, AstraZeneca Pharma India, said the Mumbai office would strengthen the company’s ability to work with healthcare partners and address India’s evolving healthcare needs. He added that the company has nearly 5,000 colleagues across the country, working to advance scientific research and access to treatments.
AstraZeneca said its focus includes developing access pathways to help more patients receive life-saving therapies. The company is also working with governments and industry partners and leveraging artificial intelligence to develop solutions across prevention, awareness, diagnosis and treatment. Its activities in India cover oncology, biopharmaceuticals and rare diseases.
Arun Krishna, Non-Executive Director on the Board of AstraZeneca Pharma India and Area Vice President, Asia, AstraZeneca, said India is an increasingly important contributor to the company’s growth across Asia. He said the new commercial office would support closer stakeholder engagement and talent development, while strengthening India’s contribution to the company’s regional and global operations.
The company said the expansion would also support continued investment in talent and capability building, with opportunities to attract and develop professionals across its operations. The Mumbai office forms part of AstraZeneca’s broader presence in India and its focus on advancing healthcare through science, technology and collaboration.
