Aurobindo Pharma’s wholly owned step-down subsidiary, Lannett Company, has launched the generic equivalent of Advair Diskus (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol inhalation powder) in the US market in 100/50 mcg and 250/50 mcg strengths.

The product, originally developed by GSK, is indicated in combination therapy for the treatment of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The launch marks the first product from Aurobindo Pharma’s inhalation pipeline to be commercialised in the US, reflecting the company’s continued focus on expanding its portfolio of complex and differentiated inhalation products.

The company said the launch forms part of its broader strategy to develop and commercialise generic pharmaceuticals, branded specialty pharmaceuticals and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) across global markets. The company operates more than 30 manufacturing and packaging facilities approved by major regulatory agencies, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare (EDQM), Japan Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), World Health Organisation (WHO) and Health Canada.

The company said its portfolio spans 7 major therapeutic and product areas, supported by an established Research and Development (R&D) infrastructure.
