Lyfius Pharma, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma, has resumed Penicillin-G production after receiving the green light from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) to operate the Kakinada plant, which had been temporarily paused following a fire in April.

In an exchange filing on June 29, the company confirmed that they received the ‘consent to operate’ (CTO) from the APPCB on Sunday and the production was re-started at the plant, with immediate effect. 

A fire broke out at the facility on April 27, causing damage to certain ancillary equipment, but the company had confirmed that there was “no impact to the core manufacturing infrastructure.”

As a precautionary measure and to facilitate necessary equipment replacements, it decided to temporarily pause operations at the plant.

Following its preliminary assessment last month, the company estimated a loss of around INR 4 crore and stated that Lyfius was in the process of submitting its final claim with the insurance company.

Aurobindo Pharma commissioned four manufacturing facilities in Andhra Pradesh in April last year through the company's wholly-owned subsidiaries: Lyfius Pharma Private Ltd., Qule Pharma Private Ltd., Eugia Steriles Private Ltd., and Auroactive Pharma Private Ltd.

These include a Penicillin-G plant, a 6-Amino Penicillanic Acid plant, an injectable products plant, and a granulation plant.

The Pen-G facility in Kakinada SEZ area has a capacity of 15,000 tonnes per annum, with an additional 1.8 lakh tonnes of glucose production.
