Cipla to Market Lilly's Weight-Loss Drug Tirzepatide in India Under New Brand

Indian pharmaceutical major Cipla has struck a deal with Eli Lilly (USA) to market and distribute tirzepatide in India under a second brand name, Yurpeak. Under the agreement, Lilly will continue to manufacture and supply the drug, while Cipla will use its extensive distribution network to broaden access beyond metropolitan centres.

Yurpeak will be offered in a once-weekly prefilled injector pen format, the same design as Lilly’s Mounjaro KwikPen, and will be available in six dosage strengths ranging from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. The pricing for Yurpeak is expected to be consistent with that of Mounjaro in India.

The move is intended to expand the reach of tirzepatide, particularly in markets where Lilly’s existing presence is limited, by leveraging Cipla’s strong field presence and distribution capabilities. The agreement reflects Lilly’s commitment to making the therapy more accessible across India, especially given rising prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Cipla views the collaboration as a significant step into the obesity care space, complementing its established work in respiratory and chronic therapies. The partnership with Lilly underscores Cipla’s ambition to bring innovative and affordable treatment options to Indian patients.
