Copan Diagnostics, part of the privately held Italy-based Copan Group and a leader in specimen collection, transport systems, and laboratory automation, has announced more than USD 7 million in new US manufacturing investments across its facilities in California and Puerto Rico.

With this expansion, Copan aims to strengthen its US presence by manufacturing products locally, reducing reliance on overseas supply chains, and enabling faster response to customer needs.

This investment will support facility expansions, new manufacturing processes, advanced quality control systems, and the implementation of new production technologies.

This initiative will help accelerate production of critical components and finished goods, such as UTM Universal Transport Medium kits, used for collecting respiratory viral specimens, and UriSponge, Copan's novel urine collection and transport device.

Copan plans to invest over USD 5 million to expand production capacity at its California and Puerto Rico facilities, allocate USD 1 million to establish US-based production of UriSponge, another USD 1 million to increase sourcing of components and reagents from US suppliers, and set up a new centralized QA laboratory to enhance quality control, innovation, and efficiency.

Construction has already commenced, with operations expected to begin in Q1 2026.
