Emcure Slashes Price of Semaglutide-Based Weight Loss Drug Poviztra in India

Emcure Pharmaceuticals has announced a price revision for its weight management drug Poviztra (semaglutide injection), making the therapy more accessible to patients across India. The revised pricing starts at INR 3,999 per month for four weekly doses and comes into effect from April 3, 2026.

Poviztra, a once-weekly semaglutide injection, is available in five strengths ranging from 0.25 mg to a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg. The drug is delivered through a user-friendly pen device designed for precise dosing and convenient self-administration.

Emcure is the first Indian company to exclusively distribute and commercialise Poviztra, a second brand of semaglutide developed by Novo Nordisk. The price reduction is expected to significantly expand patient access to the globally established therapy at a time when obesity is emerging as a major public health concern in India.

Semaglutide, a biologic molecule with nearly a decade of market presence, is backed by extensive clinical and real-world data, including over 49 million patient-years of exposure and nearly 50 clinical trials across diverse settings. It is widely used worldwide for weight management and related metabolic conditions.

Commenting on the development, Satish Mehta, CEO and Managing Director of Emcure Pharma, said the revised pricing reflects the company’s commitment to making scientifically validated treatments more affordable. He highlighted that India faces a growing obesity burden, with millions affected by generalised and abdominal obesity, underscoring the need for wider access to effective therapies.

Obesity is associated with over 230 health complications, including cardiovascular diseases, Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver disease and osteoarthritis. With this move, Emcure aims to improve health outcomes by enabling broader adoption of advanced weight management solutions.
