Entod Pharmaceuticals Launches Project AXIOM to Explore Novel Myopia Therapy

Entod Pharmaceuticals has announced Project AXIOM, an India-led research programme exploring dopaminergic modulation as a potential next-generation therapeutic approach for progressive myopia.

At the centre of the programme is AKMYX-101, an investigational topical ophthalmic candidate designed to modulate retinal dopaminergic signalling. The approach aims to influence excessive axial elongation, a key factor associated with the progression of myopia.

Project AXIOM is currently at an early investigational stage, and its therapeutic potential has yet to be established. The programme will undergo the required preclinical studies, safety evaluations, regulatory processes and clinical development before its efficacy and safety can be determined.

The research programme is expected to combine advanced formulation science, ocular pharmacokinetics, target-engagement studies and preclinical research. Entod Pharmaceuticals said the initiative reflects its ambition to develop, from India, a potentially first-of-its-kind ophthalmic therapy with global applications.

Commenting on the initiative, Nikkhil K Masurkar, CEO and Global Head of Innovation, Entod Pharmaceuticals, said the company's objective is to move beyond manufacturing medicines for global markets and contribute to originating new scientific and therapeutic innovations from India.

He added that Project AXIOM represents the company's ambition to advance ophthalmic science conceived and developed in India towards patients worldwide.

The programme comes as India seeks to strengthen its capabilities in pharmaceutical research and innovation alongside its established role as a major global supplier of medicines. Through Project AXIOM, Entod Pharmaceuticals aims to explore a novel scientific pathway for addressing progressive myopia while contributing to India's broader innovation-led pharmaceutical ambitions.
