The Epilepsy Foundation of America has announced a new partnership with SeizeSense, a youth-founded nonprofit focused on seizure education and stigma reduction, alongside the launch of a national Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign aimed at improving seizure safety awareness across the United States.
The animated PSA will be screened in cinemas operated by AMC Theatres and other nationwide theatre networks. Developed by SeizeSense in collaboration with Blancolorenz, the campaign seeks to educate moviegoers on recognising seizures and responding safely and effectively during emergencies.
The PSA began airing on National CineMedia screens on March 6, 2026, and will run until April 2, 2026, while screenings on Screenvision began on March 9 and will continue until April 5, 2026. Through these cinema networks, the campaign is expected to reach audiences across the country and expand public understanding of epilepsy in everyday community spaces.
Cristian Veloso, founder of SeizeSense, launched the initiative after being diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of four following his first tonic-clonic seizure while travelling in Spain. After spending a year being homeschooled while doctors managed his condition, Veloso turned his personal experience into a mission to raise awareness and support others living with epilepsy.
Through SeizeSense, Veloso aims to equip communities with the knowledge needed to respond effectively when someone experiences a seizure. The organisation focuses on providing accurate information, practical guidance and community outreach to reduce stigma and promote supportive environments for people living with epilepsy.
According to the Epilepsy Foundation, raising awareness in public settings such as movie theatres can play a crucial role in ensuring that more people understand seizure first aid and feel confident responding in emergency situations.
As part of the partnership, the Epilepsy Foundation will integrate the PSA initiative into its broader national education programmes to expand the reach of seizure first aid awareness campaigns and strengthen efforts to reduce stigma around epilepsy.
Beyond the cinema campaign, SeizeSense plans to expand its educational outreach by conducting seizure safety sessions in schools across Miami and organising fundraising initiatives to support individuals with epilepsy who require additional healthcare resources and support services.
Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological disorders globally. According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 3.4 million Americans are living with active epilepsy. The condition is characterised by recurrent seizures caused by sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain, which can affect behaviour, awareness and physical control. In addition to seizures, individuals with epilepsy may experience challenges such as fatigue, memory problems, mood changes, anxiety and difficulty concentrating.
The Epilepsy Foundation has spent more than five decades working to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through advocacy, education, research funding and community support initiatives.
