Fischer Medical Ventures Appoints Dr. Iype Cherian as Director

Fischer Medical Ventures, a leading innovator in medical imaging and diagnostic technologies, has announced the appointment of Dr. Iype Cherian, an internationally acclaimed neurosurgeon, educator, and inventor, as Director of the company.

Dr. Cherian will play a pivotal role in steering the development of DRIS–iMRI Medharanya, a next-generation, AI-enabled, portable intraoperative MRI system designed to transform neurosurgical imaging and practice. The system integrates Augmented Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) and Exoscope technologies, enabling unparalleled precision, visualisation and accessibility in real-time interoperative imaging.

The DRIS–iMRI Medharanya also embodies the Extradural Parasigmoid approach to the Jugular Foramen (Ex Pa JuF) — a groundbreaking surgical pathway for managing complex glomus tumours with enhanced safety and anatomical clarity.

Under his leadership, Time Medical International Ventures (India) — the wholly owned subsidiary of Fischer Medical Ventures — is set to accelerate advancements in in real-time intraoperative imaging and enhance surgical precision, safety, and outcomes.

‘With Dr. Cherian’s expertise and vision, Time Medical is entering an exciting new phase of innovation. The Interop MRI represents our commitment to developing cutting-edge, accessible solutions that bring world-class imaging into the surgical environment,” said Svetlana, Director, Time Medical International Ventures (India).

Currently serving as Director of Neuro Sciences at Parul Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Dr. Cherian is also the Founder and President of Neurosurgery Coach, a global platform for micro-neurosurgical training. His extensive experience and contributions to surgical technique and technology development make him a valuable addition to Fischer Medical’s leadership team.

“Glioma surgery is generally a blind surgery. Interoperative MRI gives vision to the surgeon, allowing them to see what has been taken and what is left. Small intraparenchymal lesions would be much easier to remove definitively if live imaging were available intraoperatively,” said Dr. Cherian.

Headquartered in Chennai, Fischer Medical Ventures is at the forefront of cost-effective medical imaging, advanced diagnostics and point-of-care technologies. Through its subsidiary at Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), Visakhapatnam, the company became the first Indian organisation to indigenously manufacture advanced MRI systems after securing a CDSCO manufacturing licence in January 2025.

In collaboration with renowned researchers like Dr. Cherian, Fischer Medical Ventures aims to democratise access to advanced diagnostic imaging while strengthening India’s “Make in India” initiative.
