Gilead breaks ground on new manufacturing hub as part of USD 32 billion US investment plan

Gilead Sciences has begun construction of a new Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing hub at its headquarters in Foster City, California, as part of a USD 32 billion investment programme to expand its manufacturing capabilities in the United States. The five-storey, 180,000-square-foot facility is expected to play a central role in delivering next-generation therapies, according to the company’s chief executive, Daniel O’Day.

Alongside the new development centre, Gilead is also advancing two additional projects on the same campus: a research building to accelerate scientific discovery, which is already under construction, and a biologics manufacturing plant to further bolster domestic production capacity.

The investments, planned through to 2030, are projected to generate more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs while contributing an estimated USD 43 billion in economic value to the US economy.
