GKB Ophthalmics has reduced production to 50 percent at its Tivim Industrial Estate plant in Mapusa, Goa, due to a slowdown in market demand and the complete suspension of export orders from its US subsidiary starting October 2025, following the imposition of heavy tariffs.
In an exchange, the company also revealed that it is reducing its manpower by releasing its temporary workers in a phased manner in order to cut down its labour cost.
GKB Ophthalmics added that it will review its situation in the coming months and accordingly plan its business operations.
Despite these challenges, GKB Ophthalmics has been awarded the Export Excellence Award in the “Hard Resilene Lenses” category by the Plastic Export Promotion Council, Government of India, for exceptional export performance during 2023–24 and 2024–25.
Founded in 1981 in Goa as a 100 percent export-oriented unit, GKB Ophthalmics is the flagship company of its group and exports ophthalmic lenses to markets worldwide.
