Health Minister Marks AMRIT Pharmacy's 10th Anniversary, Announces Nationwide Expansion

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda inaugurated the 10th anniversary of the Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) Pharmacy initiative in New Delhi.

He stated that over 255 AMRIT pharmacies are currently operational across the country and announced plans to expand the network to 500 outlets. He added that AMRIT outlets are functional in all AIIMS locations and said that the next goal is to establish pharmacies in every medical college and district hospital.

According to the data shared, AMRIT pharmacies offer medicines at discounts of around 50 percent, benefiting more than 6.85 crore patients to date. Medicines valued at over INR 17,000 crore have been dispensed through the network, resulting in cumulative patient savings of approximately INR 8,400 crore.

At the event, the minister also inaugurated 10 new AMRIT outlets across India and launched AMRIT ITes – Eco Green Version 2.0, a digital platform aimed at streamlining operations and improving transparency within the network.

Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava said the initiative was launched to expand access to affordable medicines and stated that the AMRIT network will continue efforts to strengthen operations and expand outreach.

The event featured the release of a customised My Stamp in collaboration with India Post and the launch of a Coffee Table Book documenting AMRIT’s 10-year timeline and key milestones. A Mobile Pharmacy Van for rural outreach in the NCR region was flagged off to support doorstep access to essential medicines in underserved areas. Additionally, a 24x7 National Contact Centre was inaugurated to provide information on medicine availability, pricing, and nearby AMRIT pharmacy locations.

Since its inception in 2015, AMRIT has supplied essential medicines and medical products at reduced prices discounts ranging from 50 percent to 90 percent, contributing to lower treatment costs for patients across various regions.
