India’s exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals rose sharply in July 2025, reaching USD 2,662.24 million, up from USD 2,334.14 million in the same month last year — a growth of 14.06 percent, according to the latest trade data released by the Department of Commerce.
In the April–July 2025 period, drug and pharmaceutical exports stood at USD 10,245.93 million, compared to USD 9,537.03 million in the same period of 2024, marking a 7.43 percent year-on-year increase.
The United States and the United Arab Emirates continued to be the biggest buyers of Indian pharmaceutical products, accounting for USD 8,012.45 million and USD 2,984.66 million, respectively, in July 2025. The Netherlands was the third-largest importer, with purchases worth USD 1,668.92 million. However, its imports dropped 20.82 percent from USD 2,107.87 million in July 2024.
On the import front, India’s inbound shipments of medicinal and pharmaceutical products also grew to USD 850.74 million in July 2025, compared to USD 750.97 million a year earlier — an increase of 13.28 percent.
For the April–July 2025 period, imports stood at USD 3,095.53 million, up 6.52 percent from USD 2,905.92 million during the same period in 2024.
China remained the largest source of medicinal and pharmaceutical imports for India. In July 2025, imports from China totalled USD 10,917.01 million, reflecting a 5.01 percent rise compared to USD 10,396.53 million in July 2024.
India’s total merchandise exports reached USD 37.24 billion in July 2025, up from USD 34.71 billion a year earlier. Total merchandise imports also rose, climbing to USD 64.59 billion from USD 59.48 billion in July 2024.
