Jiahui International Cancer Centre Stabilizes US Lung Cancer Patient Using China-Developed Immunotherapy Ivonescimab

Jiahui International Cancer Centre (JICC) in Shanghai has successfully stabilised a patient from the United States suffering from advanced Non?Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Parkinson’s disease using Ivonescimab, a novel immunotherapy currently available only in China.

The patient, in his seventies, had previously undergone multiple lines of treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Centre in the United States but had exhausted all standard therapeutic options. Physicians there recommended exploring ivonescimab, the world’s first approved PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody for treating solid tumours.

Following a video consultation arranged within a week of the family’s initial inquiry, the patient chose to travel to JICC for treatment due to its multidisciplinary oncology expertise and the presence of US-trained specialists, including Medical Oncology Chief Xuan Linli.

During the course of therapy, the patient experienced immune-related complications that required intensive care support. The hospital rapidly coordinated a multidisciplinary response involving oncology, neurology and critical care specialists, while also consulting Zhou Caicun, the principal investigator associated with the ivonescimab programme.

Following this intervention, the patient’s condition has stabilised, and ongoing treatment is now focused on managing the disease and maintaining clinical stability.

JICC operates as a tertiary international hospital and maintains a partnership with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre. The facility offers integrated services for international patients, including remote consultations, travel arrangements and continuous communication with family members during treatment.

The patient’s daughter expressed appreciation for the medical and support teams involved in her father’s care, highlighting the dedication of doctors, nurses and hospital staff who provided both medical treatment and emotional support throughout his stay.

Advances in China’s oncology innovation ecosystem are increasingly attracting international patients seeking novel treatment options. With cutting-edge therapies such as ivonescimab, Jiahui International Cancer Centre is seeing growing interest from patients and medical referrals across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
