Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) has announced an investment of more than $1 billion to build a next-generation cell therapy manufacturing facility in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The new site will significantly expand the company’s U.S. manufacturing capacity as it advances a robust portfolio and pipeline of innovative treatments targeting cancer, immune-mediated and neurological diseases.
The facility represents a continuation of Johnson & Johnson’s 140-year legacy of healthcare innovation in the United States. Company leadership emphasized that the project combines scientific excellence, advanced manufacturing capabilities and strategic investment, while also creating meaningful economic opportunities for local communities.
Designed to incorporate cutting-edge biomanufacturing technologies, the site will also focus on workforce development and training in advanced manufacturing skills. Once fully operational, it is expected to support more than 500 high-skilled biomanufacturing roles and generate over 4,000 construction jobs during the development phase.
Pennsylvania leaders highlighted the state’s growing prominence in life sciences and advanced manufacturing, noting that strategic investments, streamlined processes and workforce development initiatives have strengthened its competitiveness. The new facility in Lower Gwynedd Township underscores the state’s position as a hub for innovation and large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The investment adds to Johnson & Johnson’s substantial economic footprint in Pennsylvania, where the company contributes approximately $10 billion annually to the state’s economy. With ten facilities spanning more than two million square feet dedicated to manufacturing, research, distribution and administrative operations, the company maintains one of the largest healthcare industry presences in the region.
The project is part of Johnson & Johnson’s previously announced $55 billion U.S. investment plan through early 2029, focused on expanding manufacturing, research and development, and technology infrastructure nationwide.
Through its Innovative Medicine and MedTech businesses, Johnson & Johnson continues to pursue breakthroughs aimed at preventing, treating and curing complex diseases, advancing smarter and less invasive treatments, and delivering more personalized healthcare solutions worldwide.
