Karnataka forms expert committee to study epidemiology of COVID-19 & assess infection transmission

Karnataka has now constituted a committee of experts to look into the interventions to be taken to tackle COVID-19. The state as on Monday reported 237 cases, 8 fatalities and 60 discharges.



The committee has been formed to primarily study the epidemiology of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Karnataka. The experts will also ascertain how different patients have got infected. They will also suggest administrative measures for breaking the COVID-19 chain and to maintain social distancing.



Further, the panel of medical experts will also ascertain and analyse the treatment given to different patients and suggest any changes in the modification required in the existing therapy protocol.



The members of the committee are Dr M K Sudarshan, public health expert and former dean, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) who is the appointment by the state as chairman. There will be four members: Dr Giridhar Babu, epidemiologist, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). Dr V Ravi and Dr Anita, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences(NIMHANS), Dr Pradeep and Dr Gururaj, epidemiology, NIMHANS, Dr K Ravi, head of the department, medicine, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute (BMCRI) and Dr Shashi Bhushan, pulmonologist, BMCRI. Dr Prakash, joint director, directorate of health and family welfare is the member secretary of the committee.



The government said that the expert panel has now be formed as a further precautionary measure and will help in the future of COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment.
