Medtronic Signs USD 550 Million Deal To Buy Scientia Vascular

Medtronic plc has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Scientia Vascular for USD 550 million, as the medical technology giant looks to strengthen its neurovascular portfolio and expand capabilities in stroke treatment.

The deal, which is subject to customary adjustments, may also include additional undisclosed earn-out and milestone payments following the completion of the acquisition. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of Medtronic’s fiscal year 2027, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

Salt Lake City-based Scientia Vascular employs around 310 people and has developed advanced guidewires and catheter technologies designed to help physicians navigate complex brain blood vessels during neurovascular procedures. These devices are intended to simplify access to treatment sites in conditions such as stroke, aneurysms and other cerebrovascular diseases.

Medtronic said Scientia’s access technologies will complement its existing neurovascular portfolio, enabling the company to support physicians across the entire procedural workflow—from vascular access to treatment delivery.

Stroke remains one of the most serious global health challenges, ranking among the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. The complex structure of cerebral blood vessels often makes it difficult for physicians to reach blocked or damaged vessels quickly, which can delay treatment.

Scientia’s platform is designed to improve navigability through complex vascular anatomy and enable faster, more reliable access during neurovascular interventions, potentially improving procedural efficiency and patient outcomes.

Following the acquisition, Medtronic expects the deal to have a minimal impact on adjusted earnings per share in FY27 and become accretive in subsequent years.
