Merck Launches ChemiSphere App to Streamline Digital Data Access and Enhance Lab Efficiency

Merck has launched ChemiSphere app, a digital tool that allows scientists to instantly access product documentation and quality information via 2D barcodes on the life science products offered by Merck. The app is powered by the company’s secure digital traceability platform M-Trust and is designed to make data retrieval faster and more reliable, helping labs reduce manual steps and improve data integrity.

“The ChemiSphere app exemplifies how M-Trust technology transforms workflows into seamless digital experiences. This application example represents the future of scientific work, where physical products and digital data converge to make customers’ lives easier by instantly connecting them to the information they need while ensuring trust in their products,” said Thomas Endress, Head, M-Trust, Merck.

The first commercial use case of the app was developed in partnership with Metrohm AG, Herisau, Switzerland. Together, the companies created a solution that transfers titration and Karl Fischer reagent data directly from reagent bottles to Metrohm’s OMNIS titrator. This process bridges a critical gap in digital data integrity, significantly enhancing the efficiency of titration workflows and preventing data transfer errors.

The launch of the ChemiSphere app underscores how Merck is focusing on building smarter digital tools that simplify daily lab work and accelerate scientific progress.

“Chemists gain significant efficiency from even minor workflow enhancements and minimising data transfer errors. By linking reagent data directly to instrument software and eliminating manual entry, the Chemisphere app greatly reduces error risks and streamlines analytical workflows in the laboratory,” said Rajeev Nair, Head—Chemistry, Life Science Business Sector, Merck.

Additional features of the app include instant access to certificates of analysis and safety data sheets, secure scan–based product authentication with quality data linked directly to the physical item, and integration with the Merck M-Trust™ platform to enable digital product passports and strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures.

The app is built on the Merck M-Trust platform launched in January 2025 to improve product safety, traceability and counterfeiting across diverse industries. M-Trust enables organisations to verify product quality and authenticity by securely linking physical products to their digital counterparts, adding trust and robust quality control to products and their Digital Product Passports (DPP).
