The government of Maharashtra plans to establish a state-of-the-art Life Sciences Innovation and Incubation Centre aimed at boosting research and development in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health. According to FDA Minister Narahari Zirwal, the centre will act as a key catalyst to transform Maharashtra into a global hub for health-, pharma- and biotech-innovation, while attracting fresh investment into the state’s manufacturing and R&D ecosystem.
Designed under a public–private partnership (PPP) model, the centre will offer modern labs, prototyping and formulation facilities, mentorship, regulatory support and funding channels — giving startups and innovators access to the infrastructure needed for cutting-edge drug, device and biotech development. The aim is to support not just pharmaceuticals, but also diagnostics, medical devices, and digital-health ventures.
The centre is expected to enhance Maharashtra’s competitiveness in global drug development, create new employment opportunities, and encourage development of globally competitive medicines and health-sector products. Officials say it will help retain the state’s leadership in innovative drug manufacturing as biotech becomes increasingly critical in modern health sciences.
