NPPA Fixes Retail Prices for 11 Drug Formulations Under DPCO 2013

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised retail prices for 11 key drug formulations, exercising its powers under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The updated prices—exclusive of GST—cover a range of therapies, including cardiovascular drugs, antibiotic injections, respiratory syrups and diabetes combination tablets.

Among the notable inclusions are Bisoprolol–Telmisartan tablets manufactured by Windlas Biotech and marketed by Intas Pharmaceuticals, priced at INR 10.49 and INR 12.09 per tablet depending on strength. Several Ceftriaxone–Sulbactam injection variants produced by Innova Captab for Dr Reddy’s Laboratories have also been priced, with rates ranging from INR 65.30 to INR 104.32 per vial.

High-strength infusion formulations from Gufic Biosciences and Criticare Division, including Ceftriaxone with Disodium Edetate and Sulbactam, have been priced up to INR 1,140.26 per vial. Paediatric formulations such as Levocetirizine–Montelukast syrup (INR 1.48 per ml) and antibiotic suspension Cefixime–Ofloxacin (INR 1.74 per ml) were also included.

Other fixed prices cover Telmisartan-based antihypertensive combinations and a triple-therapy diabetes tablet from Glenmark and Synokem, priced at INR 12.15 per tablet.

As per DPCO provisions, manufacturers must issue updated price lists in Form-V through the Integrated Pharmaceutical Database Management System (IPDMS) portal and ensure compliance at retail and distribution levels. NPPA has clarified that failure to adhere to the notified prices will attract recovery of overcharged amounts along with applicable interest under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

The revised prices are applicable only to manufacturers and marketers who sought approval via Form-I and have valid regulatory permissions. Older price orders for these formulations stand superseded with immediate effect.
