Dutch semiconductor manufacturing and design company NXP Semiconductors has announced that its Trimension Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology is enabling Jedsy X medical delivery drones, making precision landings at windows and balconies a reality.
Jedsy is the first company in the world to dock directly at windows or balconies with delivery drones, allowing for quicker and easier dispatch of medical goods.
Designed to transport essential medical supplies and life-saving medicines swiftly to both urban and remote locations, the drones use NXP’s Trimension SR150 to accurately detect their position, enabling more challenging maneuvers, such as landing at building windows.
UWB technology enables many of the healthcare innovations, from precision drone landings to fall detection in elder care settings.
Jerome Legros, Vice President, Secure Embedded Transactions, NXP, said, “The precision, security and accuracy of UWB-based location or motion tracking offers a number of benefits in medical applications. Jedsy’s UWB-enabled drone makes it easier to deliver medical supplies directly where they are needed. In other settings, UWB could be used to monitor the patient’s vitals in real-time, without the need for intrusive cameras or equipment, or determine the location of an important piece of hospital equipment,” he added.
Christian Bredemeier, CEO, Jedsy, added, “UWB technology has given the Jedsy X drone the precision required to be able to land where it’s needed – whether that’s in a rural field or on the side of a building in an urban city center.”
NXP Semiconductors is a leading global player in the semiconductor industry, with operations in over 30 countries and reported revenue of USD 12.61 billion in 2024.
