The leadership of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (PHARMEXCIL) recently met senior government officials to discuss strategic measures aimed at sustaining and expanding India’s pharmaceutical exports. The engagements focused on policy alignment, market diversification and long-term growth opportunities for the sector.
The PHARMEXCIL delegation—comprising Chairman Namit Joshi, Chairman–iPHEX 2026 and MSME Committee Nipun Jain and Director General Raja Bhanu—met Rajesh Agrawal, Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industry, to review India’s export performance and future outlook. During the meeting, the council highlighted that pharmaceutical exports reached USD 30.47 billion in FY 2024–25, recording a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of 9.4 percent, with expectations of further improvement.
PHARMEXCIL also noted its ranking as the fourth-largest Export Promotion Council in the country and acknowledged the department’s support for initiatives such as the Chintan Shivir programme, which engages pharmaceutical MSMEs through regional conferences. The delegation also shared updates on iPHEX 2026, scheduled to be held from 7-9 September, 2026, in Delhi.
In a separate interaction with Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), discussions centred on the sector’s growth trajectory and future readiness. While exports stand at over USD 30 billion, India’s domestic pharmaceutical market—currently valued at around USD 60 billion—is projected to reach USD 130 billion by 2030.
Meetings with Satya Prakash L, Joint Secretary, DoP, focused on strengthening industry–academia collaboration across areas such as clinical research, biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and APIs, with an emphasis on innovation, skills development and capacity building. The delegation also briefed Lav Aggarwal, Director General, DGFT, on PHARMEXCIL’s initiatives and sought continued institutional support for upcoming programmes.
Commenting on the engagements, Namit Joshi, Chairman, PHARMEXCIL, said that the sector is at a critical juncture, supported by strong export momentum, a fast-growing domestic market and sustained government backing.
Jain added that platforms like Chintan Shivir and iPHEX play a vital role in enabling MSMEs and exporters by facilitating market access and fostering discussions on quality, innovation and global competitiveness.
