Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rewari, Haryana, alongside the presence of Bandaru Dattatreya, Governor of Haryana.
The event also witnessed the laying of foundation stones for various other crucial development projects in the state. Among the dignitaries present were Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana; Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (IC), Planning, Statistic and Programme Implementation, Ministry of Corporate Affairs; and Dushyant Chautala, Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana.
Expressing his delight at the ceremony, PM Modi emphasized the rapid transformation of the healthcare sector in line with the aspirations of the people. He emphasized the vision of 'Viksit Bharat' and highlighted the pivotal role of the health sector in driving the country towards that vision by 2047. He emphasized that only a developed Haryana can lead to a developed India, stating, “Infrastructure development also entails better healthcare facilities and health is an intrinsic part of the country’s development agenda”.
The PM underscored the significance of prioritizing public health infrastructure, stating that the foundation-laying ceremony of AIIMS Rewari aligns with the government's commitment to bolster citizen-centric health services. “AIIMS Rewari will not only cater to the healthcare needs of Haryana but will also create jobs for the youth and provide them with opportunities to pursue medical education,” he said.
The PM also highlighted the government's achievement in the healthcare sector, mentioning the approval of 15 new AIIMS and over 300 new medical colleges in the past decade, including one medical college in each district of Haryana.
Union Health Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, termed the foundation stone-laying of AIIMS Rewari as a historic day for Haryana's healthcare ecosystem, emphasizing its potential to benefit not only the people of Haryana but also those from neighboring states by providing access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Manohar Lal expressed gratitude to the Union Government for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Rewari by provisioning an AIIMS in the region. He noted that AIIMS Rewari will not only serve the people of South Haryana but also those from North Rajasthan, enhancing medical services in the region. He also praised the decision to establish one medical college in every district of Haryana, considering it a landmark initiative in extending healthcare services to remote areas.
The establishment of AIIMS Rewari in Haryana has been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme, aiming to rectify regional imbalances in specialized health services and enhance medical education facilities. The new AIIMS, developed at a cost of INR 1650 crore on 203 acres of land in Rewari, will comprise a 750-bed hospital complex, a medical college, a nursing college, AYUSH block, residential complexes, and other amenities.
The hospital will provide high-quality patient care services in various super specialty and specialty departments, benefiting the underprivileged population of remote areas through community outreach initiatives.
