Royal Philips has secured the top position among medical technology companies in the European Patent Office’s (EPO) Technology Dashboard 2025, underscoring its continued leadership in health technology innovation. The company filed 676 MedTech patent applications during the year, including several focused on artificial intelligence (AI), reflecting a robust innovation pipeline. Medical technology remains the most significant domain for Dutch patent filings at the EPO, with Philips continuing to lead as the largest contributor, having submitted a total of 1,289 patent applications across multiple domains.
Commenting on the achievement, Marnix van Ginneken, Member of the Board of Management at Philips, highlighted that the company’s consistent ranking as a top applicant reflects the strength of its innovation engine and its commitment to delivering meaningful advancements in healthcare and self-care. He emphasized that Philips’ innovation strategy is increasingly driven by data, AI, and platform-based solutions aimed at improving care delivery and accessibility.
Philips continues to focus on integrating hardware, software, data, and AI to address clinical, operational, and everyday health challenges. Its connected ecosystem enables seamless data flow across imaging systems, patient monitoring devices, and connected health platforms, supporting clinicians in making more informed decisions and delivering efficient care across hospital and home settings. Through collaborations with clinical and technology partners, the company accelerates the development and deployment of scalable healthcare solutions.
In 2025, Philips reported that its innovations positively impacted the lives of 2 billion people globally and has set a target to reach 2.5 billion people annually by 2030, including 400 million in underserved communities. In addition, Philips continues to expand its consumer health portfolio with AI-driven personal care solutions.
The company’s innovation leadership is further supported by sustained investment in research and development, with over 9 Percent of its annual sales allocated to R&D in 2025. Philips also maintains a strong intellectual property portfolio, comprising approximately 53,000 patent rights, along with extensive trademarks, design rights, and domain assets.
