Sectra Enters Japan's Digital Pathology Market with Kameda Medical Centre Project

Sectra, a medical technology and cybersecurity company, together with its distribution partner Matsunami Glass, has begun implementing its first digital pathology project in Japan, marking the company’s official entry into the Japanese market.

The project is being deployed at Kameda Medical Centre following a contract signed in the second quarter of Sectra’s 2025-2026 fiscal year. The agreement was facilitated through Matsunami Glass, Sectra’s authorised digital pathology distributor in Japan.

The implementation represents a significant milestone for Sectra as it expands its digital pathology footprint in Asia and supports Japan’s transition toward more advanced, efficient diagnostic workflows. The solution is designed to strengthen diagnostic capabilities by enabling digital review, collaboration and access to integrated artificial intelligence tools.

Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB, said, “Collaborating with Kameda Medical Centre for Sectra’s first digital pathology project in Japan is a significant milestone for us. Receiving an order from such a respected institution underscores our commitment to being a trusted partner for Japanese healthcare providers and to improving patient care through efficient diagnostics.”

Sectra’s digital pathology module will allow pathologists at Kameda Medical Centre to digitally review tissue samples, collaborate more effectively on cases and access images instantly and remotely, reducing reliance on traditional glass slides and microscopes.

Professor Junya Fukuoka, Chair of the Department of Pathology at Kameda Medical Centre, stated that the hospital’s decision followed nearly a decade of operating as a fully digital pathology laboratory.

He added, “We are entering a new phase by transitioning to a comprehensive digital pathology module. Sectra’s platform offers strong compatibility, interoperability and data security, which are essential for our continued evolution.”

The project highlights the growing adoption of digital pathology in Japan supporting the modernisation of diagnostic services in the country.
