Siemens Healthineers has announced the commencement of local manufacturing of its Atellica chemistry reagents at the company’s facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone under India’s Make in India initiative. The move is expected to improve access to advanced diagnostic solutions for healthcare providers and patients across the country while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in the healthcare sector.
The locally manufactured chemistry reagents are used in routine blood tests that help diagnose and monitor a wide range of health conditions, including infections, diabetes and abnormalities in organ function. By producing these reagents within India, Siemens Healthineers aims to support timely diagnosis, early detection and preventive care, enabling clinicians to identify health risks and initiate treatment more effectively.
The company stated that local production will help ensure greater availability of high-quality diagnostic products tailored to the needs of Indian laboratories and healthcare institutions. It also aligns with the country’s broader efforts to enhance self-reliance in critical healthcare technologies and strengthen the domestic medical manufacturing ecosystem.
Hariharan Subramanian, Managing Director of Siemens Healthcare, said the Vadodara facility builds on more than five decades of expertise in diagnostics and will play an important role in delivering solutions designed specifically for the Indian healthcare market.
He noted that the initiative supports national priorities aimed at boosting local manufacturing in healthcare while advancing preventive care and strengthening India’s capabilities in medical technologies.
The Atellica Solution, Siemens Healthineers’ laboratory diagnostics platform, is widely recognised for its innovation, efficiency and sustainability in clinical testing. The availability of locally manufactured reagents is expected to further enhance the value of the platform for healthcare providers by improving supply chain resilience and ensuring reliable access to diagnostic products.
The company believes that expanding domestic production capabilities will contribute to improving healthcare outcomes in India by supporting faster diagnosis, better disease monitoring and broader access to quality care.
