Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has established the Sun Professorship in Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Mark G. Lebwohl, M.D., will serve as the inaugural professor, with his installation taking place at Hatch Auditorium at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

The professorship is supported by a USD 2.5 million endowment from Sun Pharma and is intended to provide ongoing support for academic leadership in dermatology. Based within the Kimberly and Eric J. Waldman Department of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the professorship will focus on advancing dermatology research and training and supporting the development of future leaders in the field.

Dr. Lebwohl serves as Dean for Clinical Therapeutics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Kimberly and Eric J. Waldman Department of Dermatology. He is recognised for his work in psoriasis research and treatment and has contributed to the understanding and management of inflammatory skin diseases.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lebwohl has worked as a clinician, investigator and mentor and has contributed to the development of standards of care in dermatology. He is Chairman Emeritus of the Medical Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation and served as President of the American Academy of Dermatology from 2015 to 2016.

Dr. Lebwohl said the professorship would provide an opportunity to pursue research questions, support investigators and help translate scientific advances into improved patient care.
