Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and certain of its subsidiaries have received a favorable ruling in long-running antitrust litigation in the US concerning a 2008 patent litigation settlement agreement with Pfizer related to generic Lipitor (atorvastatin).
The plaintiffs had alleged that the settlement agreement unlawfully delayed generic competition for Lipitor and that, absent the alleged unlawful settlement, the generic version would have entered the market earlier. The litigation had been disclosed by Sun Pharma in its financial statements from time to time.
The US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has affirmed the District Court's order granting summary judgment in its entirety in favor of Sun Pharma and its subsidiaries. The Appellate Court also affirmed the District Court's orders denying class certification to the plaintiffs.
Sun Pharma said the decision represents a significant favorable development for the company and its subsidiaries. The ruling brings the litigation substantially to a close, although further remedies may remain available to the plaintiffs under applicable law.
The update was disclosed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries in a regulatory filing dated August 17, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
