TechBio Startup Generare Raises 20 Million Euros to Unlock Novel Drug Discovery Data

Generare, a techbio company focused on generating novel molecular data for drug discovery, has raised 20 million euros in a Series A funding round co-led by Alven and Daphni, with participation from existing investors including Galion.exe, Teampact Ventures and VIVES Partners.

The funding will be used to expand Generare’s proprietary compound library, grow its multidisciplinary team, and scale its discovery platform to meet rising demand from pharmaceutical and agrochemical companies.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Guillaume Vandenesch and CSO Dr Vincent Libis, Generare is building a high-quality dataset of previously unexplored molecular chemistry. Its platform focuses on discovering novel small molecules by decoding genetic information embedded in microbial genomes.

Using proprietary high-throughput cloning and sequencing technology, the company screens microbial genomes at scale to identify gene sequences likely to produce bioactive compounds. These are then expressed and analyzed for their structure, biological activity, and drug potential.

Generare aims to address a key challenge in drug discovery—the industry’s reliance on a limited chemical space due to lack of novel, high-quality data. By tapping into evolution-derived chemistry, most of which remains unexplored, the company is building a continuously expanding dataset to power next-generation drug discovery.

Within just three years, Generare has identified over 200 new molecules in 2025 alone, significantly outpacing the broader industry. These molecules are now being explored for potential therapies targeting life-threatening diseases.

With the new funding, Generare plans to scale its discovery capacity tenfold by 2027 to over 2,000 molecules annually, with long-term ambitions of exceeding 10,000. The company also plans to nearly double its 25-member global team.

“Drug discovery faces a fundamental data challenge. By building the largest proprietary dataset of novel, evolution-derived small molecules, we aim to unlock new possibilities for therapeutic innovation,” said Guillaume Vandenesch, CEO and co-founder of Generare.

Advisors to the company include Dr Frank Petersen, former executive director at Novartis, and Professor Nadine Ziemert, a leading expert in microbial biosynthetic gene clusters.

By unlocking vast reserves of evolution-driven chemistry, Generare aims to redefine drug discovery and open new frontiers in healthcare and agriculture.
