TekniPlex Healthcarehas invested in new medical tubing extrusion lines along with downstream equipment as part of an expansion to its production facility in Cartago, Costa Rica.The combined project will boost manufacturing capacity and capabilities while also adding around 40,000 square feet of assembly and storage space.

The new medical tube extrusion equipment will be set up at the current facility's cleanroom for the initial phase. As the market for medical device components expands, TekniPlex will be able to increase its capacity for medical tubing and profile manufacture thanks to the continuous closed-loop feedback extrusion technology.

In a statement, the company said “The expansion will help further improve TekniPlex Healthcare’s business continuity capabilities – often a key factor in strategic partner selection where dual validation is critical – by building upon existing medical tubing manufacturing”.

The project will enable TekniPlex to transfer stock that has been stored off-site to a newly built structure close to its current facilities. The workflow will be enhanced by this centralization, which will also open the door for a future expansion that is anticipated. Expanded assembly capacity and capabilities will receive a portion of this new space as a nod to the expanding market need for high-quality medical device components.
