The Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been apprised of a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) signed between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The MoI, signed on 7th November 2023, sets the stage for collaborative efforts in the field of Medical Products Regulation.
The primary objective of the MoI is to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation and the exchange of information between CDSCO and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport, representing the Medicines Evaluation Board, Health and Youth Care Inspectorate, and Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
This collaboration aligns with their international responsibilities, fostering better understanding and alignment in medical products regulation.
The regulatory authorities of both countries aim to enhance their cooperation in matters related to pharmaceuticals, encompassing raw materials for pharmaceutical use, biological products, medical devices, and cosmetic products.
The convergence of regulatory practices is anticipated to have a positive impact on India's pharmaceutical sector, potentially increasing the export of medicines and creating more employment opportunities for professionals in the field.
The MoI is poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating the export of medical products, thereby contributing to foreign exchange earnings. This aligns with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India), fostering economic independence and resilience.
