Venezuela Seeks Essential Medicines from Indian Pharma; Pharmexcil Urges SRA-Approved Exporters to Respond

In a recent communication from the Embassy of India in Venezuela, the Venezuelan Ministry of Education has expressed a formal requirement for essential medicines, presenting a fresh export opportunity for Indian pharmaceutical companies. The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has been entrusted with coordinating this initiative and is inviting member companies—especially those holding Stringent Regulatory Authority (SRA) approvals—to express interest.

India’s growing pharmaceutical trade with Venezuela is underpinned by the Latin American country's demand for cost-effective and high-quality generic medicines. Pharmexcil has circulated the list of required drugs to eligible manufacturers and urged prompt responses through a designated Google form. The compiled data will be submitted to the Commerce Embassy of India in Caracas for further coordination.

This demand spans a broad spectrum of treatments, covering common illnesses and critical conditions such as fever, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, asthma, COPD, infections, epilepsy, gastrointestinal disorders, mental health issues, STDs, pneumonia, and allergic reactions. The medicine list includes widely used drugs like acetaminophen 500mg, folic acid, valproic acid, amoxicillin, atorvastatin 20mg, azithromycin, budesonide, calcium, carbamazepine, ciprofloxacin, clopidogrel 75mg, dexamethasone, escitalopram, hydrochlorothiazide, levetiracetam, losartan potassium 100mg, omeprazole 20mg, prednisone, quetiapine 200mg, oral rehydration salts, Ringer's solution, and many others.

Pharmexcil emphasized that only companies with the capacity to supply the specified medicines and valid SRA certifications should respond. This ensures the exported products meet international quality and safety standards in line with Venezuela’s healthcare requirements.

This opportunity marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s footprint in Latin American pharmaceutical markets, while also contributing to global public health needs. The Venezuelan government has shown keen interest in deepening its pharmaceutical ties with India, especially in the backdrop of rising demand for chronic disease medications and quality generics.

Pharmexcil has encouraged Indian exporters to treat this as a timely and strategic opportunity to expand their global reach while reinforcing India's role as a key player in international healthcare supply chains.
