Zydus Lifesciences Launches Aerolife Mini, India's First Portable Foldable Spacer

Zydus Lifesciences has launched Aerolife Mini, a next-generation pressurised metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) enhancer, marking a key step in its strategy to drive innovation in respiratory drug-device solutions.

Developed under an exclusive licensing agreement with AeroDel Technology Innovations, Aerolife Mini is positioned as India’s first portable and foldable spacer device, designed to improve the effectiveness and convenience of inhaled therapies.

India continues to face a growing burden of chronic respiratory conditions such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and bronchiectasis, driven by rising air pollution, smoking, recurrent infections and delayed diagnosis. These conditions often require long-term inhaled treatment to manage symptoms and maintain quality of life.

However, effective drug delivery remains a major challenge. Studies indicate that a significant proportion of patients use inhalers incorrectly, with nearly 94 percent making at least one critical error, leading to reduced drug efficacy. Spacer devices help address this issue by improving drug deposition in the lungs and reducing coordination errors during inhalation.

Despite their clinical benefits, conventional spacer devices are often bulky and inconvenient, limiting their portability and consistent use. Frequent assembly requirements also contribute to incorrect usage and low adherence, particularly outside home settings.

Aerolife Mini aims to overcome these limitations with its compact, foldable and ready-to-use design. The device is expected to enhance drug delivery efficiency, improve patient compliance and increase ease of use in everyday settings.

The launch aligns with Zydus’ long-term focus on building patient-centric, innovation-driven respiratory care solutions, leveraging integrated drug-device platforms to deliver differentiated and sustainable healthcare outcomes.
